Your Story

“And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.”
John 4:39 NKJV

Stories are powerful, especially the ones with surprise endings. Like the story of a woman who had been married five different times, and was living with a man who is not her husband. A woman who lived as an outcast in her own community. Is this the kind of person God would use to tell His story?

Jesus encounters this woman at a well in the city of Samaria. He speaks to her about living water, her five ex-husbands, and the heart of worship. Yep, He spoke to her about the reality of His life and her life at the same time. His story includes her, and her story includes Him.

Their story is written in order to inspire and encourage you and me. The most unlikely person fits perfectly in His story. A woman in that culture was looked down upon, especially a Samaritan woman. Not to mention her track record with marriage.

Jesus did not choose her because she was good, but because He is good. She did not deserve His time, His presence, much less a part in His story. Neither do we, but thankfully He still chooses the underdog.

This woman shared her story with the people of that city, and many came to believe in Christ. In most churches she would never be picked to go on God’s behalf. She would never have been chosen to lead a ministry team or mission trip. Yet, God chose her.

God chose you, too. No matter how bad your story seems to be, Jesus can re-write a surprise ending for you. He can use the things you are ashamed of for His glory. He is that good. He is that powerful.

Maybe you have been told God is against you, or that He is mad at you. Truth is, He loves you! You can find forgiveness and new life in a relationship with Jesus Christ. Believe in Him, and ask Him to save you. He changed her life, and He’ll do the same for you.

Share your story. Share what Jesus has done in your life. Tell others about how He loved you, in spite of you. How He accepted you, when others rejected you. How He forgave you, when you could not forgive yourself. How He empowered you to begin again, when you thought it was over. Her story changed a city, and so can yours.
