Yellow Brick Road
What is your yellow brick road? What does your pathway towards destiny look like? Are you going in circles, or is the compass of your heart set in a specific direction? Recently, as I begin to ask the Lord questions concerning my own destiny, something unexpected happened. I asked him, “Lord, what do you want me to do”? Suddenly, He turned the question back on me saying, “John, what do you want to do in Me?” He was asking me about my passions and dreams. This was hard for me to comprehend at first, because I’d much rather have Him just tell me what to do. He spoke to me saying, “You are not my slave, I’ve made you a son. Son, what do you enjoy?”
He already knows what I enjoy, He was only asking me so that I would get a clue. A man’s heart plans his way. What is your plan? What is in your heart? I’m not talking about selfishness or sin, the main point is that scripture says whatever you do, do it heartily, as unto the Lord and not to men (Colossians 3:23). This means we do things from the heart, and serve from the place of our passions. What are you passionate about? It may be helpful to make a top ten passions list. This list should be filled with things that make you get out of bed in the morning.
Once we have been honest with our dreams, desires, and passions, we should present them before the Lord and watch Him create the steps in our paths. Following the Spirit step by step will ensure we stay on the yellow brick road. You know what you’ll find if you get off the road? That’s right, “lions and tigers and bears….oh my!”
Psalm 32:8 says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” After establishing our hearts desire and submitting it to Him, God promises to instruct us and lead us step by step into our promise land. We can trust in the Lord to guide us in wisdom.
There are many things that compete for your time and energy, but knowing what you’re created to do will help you stay focused towards your destiny. Whatever you do, God wants it done from the heart of a son or daughter who is willing to serve their father with joy. Jesus didn’t die to make you a slave in your Father’s house.
Want to make sure you are in route to your promise land? Two things you can do:
1. Attend Discovery 101 on Sunday night, September 1st. Many have experienced an ‘aha’ moment, redirecting them towards their destiny. There is NO REQUIREMENT to join or do anything in Discovery. Just an opportunity to find a new pathway. This is not just for new believers, but all believers.
2. Make and share a list of your top ten passions with trusted Godly friends, and have them help you shape it into one statement. This could be the signature statement that God is trying to make through your existence. We’ll help you do this step by step in Discovery.
I pray you discover your yellow brick road, the path you’re meant to follow, as you search your heart and trust in Him.
